Can You Really Talk to Animals? What Animal Communication Taught Me About My Dog (and Myself)

"If you want facts, ask the animal. If you want opinions, listen to the human."

I say that a lot when I teach animal communication, and it usually gets a laugh. Then people realize I mean it.

It started with a birthday present for my dog

My chihuahua, Porsche, has been my soul-dog since she was a puppy. For her fifth birthday, I bought an intro animal communication workshop as her present. I was 25, and I thought it would be a sweet way to understand her a little better.

It changed my whole life. It brought Porsche and me even closer. And it gently reopened a door I'd kept shut for years, because animals in spirit started coming through, and then people in spirit came with them. That's how I found my way back to mediumship.

What telepathic animal communication actually is

Telepathic animal communication is receiving and sending information beyond spoken language: thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, images and energy.

Animals don't use words the way we do (although they are very vocal), but they communicate constantly. In a session I can receive:

• Their thoughts and emotional states
• Physical sensations
• Preferences and boundaries
• Memories and experiences
• Guidance and soul-level awareness

This isn't reserved for a gifted few. Every human is naturally intuitive and telepathic. Most of us just weren't taught how to listen, trust what we receive, or tell intuition apart from mental noise. It's a trainable skill, like a language or an instrument.

Animals are mirrors

This is the part that surprised me most.

Animals are deeply attuned to our energy and emotions, and they often reflect what's happening in their humans before we're consciously aware of it. I teach this as the Universal Law of Reflections.

I learned it with Porsche. When she had ongoing kidney issues that weren't responding to physical treatment, intuitive communication showed me she was mirroring emotional toxicity and unprocessed anger I was holding. Another time, it was ongoing anal gland discomfort (very glamorous, I know). Both times, once I addressed the emotional energy within myself, her symptoms resolved.

Not everything is a reflection. Some things are soul contracts, lessons you and your animal chose together at a soul level. Part of my training is telling the difference, because what helps is different.

Animal communication is for insight and connection. It's never a substitute for veterinary care. If your animal is unwell, please work with your vet. A session sits alongside that care; it can't replace it.

What a session can help with

I don't only connect to your animal's day-to-day experiences and physical needs. I also tune into their soul and Higher Self, which is where animal communication moves beyond "what's wrong?" into "why is this showing up, and what wants to shift?"

Sessions can help with:

• Understanding behavior, fear or reactivity
• Navigating a move, a new baby, a new animal or another big change
• Strengthening your bond
• End-of-life decisions, and connecting with animals in spirit after they pass

Sometimes the most helpful things are small. One client's dog asked for a longer leash on walks, a little more freedom. She tried it right away, and the walks got calmer almost instantly.

My childhood dog, Dexter, was a cockapoo, and he was my best friend. He passed in 2018, at 13. I wrote a book about him, Through My Dog's Eyes, to help other people heal their grief.

Since training in animal communication, my bond with Dexter has become even deeper. Our animals don't stop loving us when they leave their bodies. They're still right there, and they still have plenty to say.
