The Longer Leash: What a Reactive Dog Was Trying to Say
Sep 11, 2026
Her mini Australian Shepherd was fearful and reactive on walks. She wanted to understand why, and how to help her dog feel more confident.
So we asked the dog.
What came through
The first thing that came through was her personality: sweet, a little funny, and unmistakably her. Her mom said it left no doubt we were talking with her dog.
Then came the requests. One of them was simple: more freedom on walks.
That one was easy to act on. She switched to a longer leash, and in her words it "instantly reduced her stress and made our walks more enjoyable."
The bigger message
The bigger message was about her owner, too. Her dog shared that she's here to help her feel more confident in her own journey. Her mom could see how the things they were working on together lined up, and how her own growth was tied to her dog's.
That's what I see in almost every session. If you want facts, ask the animal. If you want opinions, listen to the human. The animal usually knows exactly what they need, and often what you need too.
In her words
"The amount of information she shares is so valuable both in the smaller details of daily life with your animal and how to make them happier and more comfortable, and in deepening the relationship and connection on an emotional and spiritual level."
